The guys order salads, sushi and beer, and sweating as much as the lemons in our glasses at the first real heat of the year, they fill me in on what's happening with the band.

Frontman Davis and drummer Capdevielle may have rocked out with Lynyrd Skynyrd's Mark Matejka and .38 Special's Danny Chauncey on their latest album, but Davis has been spending some time with musicians of a different kind-Cleveland rapper Kid Cudi and hip hop artist Bobby Ray out of Atlanta have not been far from his iPod lately.

So it's no coincidence that Lost Souls is the group's most eclectic effort to date. Some of those soulful influences have found a back way onto the album.

Davis, now 26, insists the record is not too serious. It's a recap of his musical career so far, he says, a venture that started more than 10 years ago when he and Capdevielle started making music together in high school.

"It's kind of a party atmosphere album, but sometimes you wake up in the morning, and you're sad about something," Davis says.

And soulful tracks like "Lay Your Hands on Me" have a story. He wrote the song as a teenager, and at the wrap of recording for Lost Souls, the producers stuck an intoxicated Davis with an acoustic guitar and told him to sing a few songs. He didn't even know he was being recorded.

"The last album sort of put a cap on some stuff," Davis says, obviously unwilling to spill any intense details. In fact, the once six-man band has been paired down to two original members. Davis works out the melodies. Capdevielle puts down the beats.

"There's two of us now-we'll go anywhere to do this thing," Capdevielle says.

Despite the drummer's West Coast get-up-a chocolate v-neck, skinny jeans and a felt hat tucked with feathers and buttons-these two are products of Baton Rouge, through and through, and Davis' lyrics are explicitly southern.

But Davis' songwriting has moved away from specific Louisiana overtones of late.

"I'm not trying to say ÂÂ

"Lost Souls Like Us" on sale only at Bestbuy.com!

This just in! Well, look no further than the new album from the Benjy Davis Project, titled Lost Souls Like Us. This Louisiana based group offers up some soon to be and already favorite road trip tunes. Lending a twangy Southern rock influence to their sound, one can't help but smile as this album unfolds.

The most intriguing aspect of the album is the fact that no one song shines above all the others, rather each song is its own story, individual of one another, inviting a new dynamic into play as each track unveils a unique experience from the song before it. Because each track is different in its own right, it's hard to pick out just what is a favorite, but found my choice in the track titled "Bite My Tongue," a sharp, and ironically enough biting vocally driven song that, to me, has a wonderful late Beatles-esque quality, which was very much apparent in the intro. Another very easily likeable listen is "Mississippi," a pure road song in every sense, with a faster paced backing and upbeat traveling driven lyrics. "Get High" serves as an ultimate weekend anthem, entertaining ideas of the good life and eliminating what worries us the rest of the time, while "Stay With Me" wraps you up in a lovely well, love-centric, flying tribute to the promises of a romance.

All of these elements, and a whole lot more, fuse together to create the epitome of lyric and vocal driven Southern rock at its best. If you can't catch them live (they currently have shows planned in Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Florida, to name a few) pick up a copy of their record, include them in your summer mixes, and hit the road, because with Lost Souls Like Us, you've found a soundtrack to your summer.

Favorite track: "Bite My Tongue"

Reviewed by: Olivia
Awesome Review of "Lost Souls Like Us" from Jersey Beat

'Effortlessly projecting a certain sweet and folksy downhome Southern charm, this perfectly laid-back and melodic country-rock album really hits the pleasant and soothing spot. Benjy Davis' warm and raspy tenor immediately puts the listener at ease. Ditto the smooth slide guitar work and relaxed, yet steady shuffling rhythms. Better still, there's a very nice and positive thoughtful quality and refreshing sense of genuine maturity evident throughout. The songs alternate between low-key and reflective and more lively all-out rockers. Favorite tune: the extremely jaunty and witty "Bite My Tongue." An excellent and immensely enjoyable album.'

"Stay With Me" on Sirius XM's The Pulse!
"Stay With Me" will air for the first time TONIGHT, 4/21 in the 8:00 pm hour on Sirius XM's The Pulse. More ambitious than to just bring their Louisiana roots into the studio, Souls mixes in elements of pop, rock, AAA and Americana to give a full experience. While these days the BDP is primarily Davis and Mac Capdeville with touring musicians, the studio players have logged time with Skynyrd, .38 Special, Jewel, Big & Rich and Lady Antebellum.

The opening "Mississippi" features a driving "on the road" type beat. Detailing the first and last thing he sees heading out to a tour, he sings, "It's the first time I've been back here since the last time I came." Mississippi" utilizes a jaunty, Americana type flavor. Keys ramble about as Davis asks Mississippi if it missed him. Purposely not doing much to distill the knock of writing party songs, "Get High" has Davis wrapping the many words around the melody a la Jason Mraz. The song is light and bouncy, and resides along side such previous work like "Do It With the Lights On".

Davis' sharp lyrics make "Send Your Love Down" either a silly little love song, or a song rife with enough double entendres to make David Lee Roth blush. The song features a lot of jam elements - Hammond organ, sharp percussion, handclaps in the breakdown and a spry live feel. "Bite My Tongue" features a piano chord that wouldn't be out of place in a New Orleans saloon. Here he rants against everyone from politicians to the elderly, as well as fellow L.A. band The Radiators for not sharing their drums. (Note to self: don't piss on Benjy Davis.) "Light of Other Days" is one of those songs that begs to be played while driving with the roof down. The melody has a crunchy rock feel, and it's a bit generic, but Davis adds layers to the song to make it pop.

Vocally, Davis will remind many of John Mayer minus the starlets. Lyrically, he has a Mraz-like penchant of matching a lot of words to the melody. Production is rich and full. All in all, we're rewarded with a pleasurable listening experience. The first listen invites the second, and new elements seem to pop out. There is a coherent feel throughout, despite mixing elements of Americana, rock, jam and pop. Davis does a nice job of giving the album it's own personality, even when it slightly wanders.'

Texas tour dates and more

check out the tour schedule - Benjy Davis Project is coming to Texas!

RADIO ALERT!! Now back to just a duo, Davis and Capdevielle are making music that feels lived-in, comfortable and personal, exactly what you'd expect from long-time collaborators.

The album kicks off with the rollicking Mississippi, an ode to the boys'
geographical neighbor (they hail from Baton Rouge). Its country-tinged melody is bright and airy, the kind of music that puts you in the mind of a top-down convertible on a summer afternoon, and Davis' lyrics are simple, straightforward and affecting ("Did you miss me, Mississippi? / And would you kiss me if I stayed?").

Those qualities - brightness, airiness, simplicity, straightforwardness - abound on Lost Souls Like Us, and song after song projects not only the duo's keen sense for melody but a pitch-perfect understanding of crafting a hummable, lovable pop song.

That craftsmanship shines through on a track like Send Down Your Love, a tune that could draw comparison to Jason Mraz or John Mayer. It's an infectious track that avoids pop pastiche thanks in large part to the Southern roots influences that are a large part of the Project's sound.

Davis and Capdevielle have found a way to pull together the sounds of country, blues, pop, roots and Southern rock so that each influence strengthens the other. Many of these tunes would sound equally at home on Top 40 radio as they would on country radio, and in a world where music listening has become more niche than ever, that's no small feat.

Now such craftsmanship for the masses could ring hollow. Not so for the Project. These guys not only make perfectly-constructed tunes, but they produce tunes with a lot of heart. Their songs can be playful (see the track Bite My Tongue), mournful (Stay with Me), moody (You Just Know) and full-on raucous (Aftermath).

The Benjy Davis Project doesn't hold anything back, and although their album title paints them as lost souls, they are anything but.

They're confident, courageous and immensely talented. Lost Souls Like Us is proof positive that it's time for these lost boys to get found.
Stickam Webcast TONIGHT, March 9th at 9pm CST!

Please join the band at www.stickam.com/benjydavisproject for a live webcast! Rather, front man Davis writes upbeat, melodic songs that are perfect for tapping your foot, singing along, and of course, drinking beer and partying to. BDP's new album, their fourth, Lost Souls Like Us, is hip enough to appeal to the college frat crowd, yet has two features that make it attractive to the AAA market: Davis' appealing tenor (which sounds a lot like Mat Kearney), and also his some lyrical depth. Witness this snippet from the opening track, "Mississippi": "I think you're really pretty / And that's all I wanna say / Did you miss me/Did you miss me Mississippi / Would you kiss me if I stayed?" Of course, you can't not appeal to the college crowd with catchy anthems like "Get High." But Davis and company aren't content to give you a few good songs. Sure, Lost Souls Like Us has a lot of sameness about it, but it's a good sameness. In addition to the tracks already mentioned, other standouts are the G. Benjy Davis Project has finally reached the plateau in which this success is finally going to come to fruition. This album is the culmination of a lot of hard work and time spent making it happen, both in the studio and on the road. On this album they have managed to include their best song to date in the first single "Stay With Me," a southern soulful rocker that is ready to rise to the top of the charts. "Get High" and "Check Your Pocket" are sure to become fan favorites and find their way into most of BDP's setlists for years to come. Throughout the album, Benjy Davis Project shows off all their different faces from county to soul to blues to straight up rock and roll. Each song has its own strengths and as a whole, the album is incredibly solid. It is so good it is surely going to find itself on the top of many best of lists by the end of the year. The musicians who were on this album helped make that possible. The style and mindset that I have and that Benjy has, it has always been easy for us as far as where we wanted the music to be.

There's two tracks on there that are very classic - remind me of Benjy's writing days in the past and where he is today. "Aftermath" and "Slow Wind" are those two songs. And if you were to listen to every album back, there's gonna be one or two songs that have that kind of vibe, very classic Benjy Davis writing, like he's at his parents' house on the back porch and he's writing something straight out of his heart. The way Benjy writes and his overall attitude offstage - he's not the kind of guy that's really going to open up to you. But somehow Benjy finds in his poetry in his writing - he writes a lot of stuff that's personal, stuff in his life that he allows to be broadcast through his music. It's a lot of real life situations that Benjy's going through in the now or just happened - when you catch him on the side offstage or for an interview, he's kind of shy, not necessarily very open. That's just his nature and who he is. I was listening with my wife the other day and she said, "Wow, Benjy really puts a lot of his life into a lot of his songs." That's pretty much the difference between Benjy's writing versus your average songwriter. Even knowing the guy for 10 years, unless he really wants to talk about something on the road or engage somebody in conversation, nine out of ten times you're the one who has to go fight for a conversation with him, you're the one who really has to come forth more than he will. That's just the nature of him. That's just who he is.'
Pre Order "Lost Souls Like Us" and get FREE SHIPPING!

PRE ORDER "Lost Souls Like Us" starting TODAY and get the CD by the March 2nd release date. And Slim, I mean, is the nicest guy in music industry, period. Very humble, very cool, easy to work with. The whole thing that was really cool and I remember telling this to Benjy - we would kind of look at each other and laugh - Benjy and I have a really similar mind about what the direction of the songs should be. Literally we pinpoint exactly the sound we're going for, the structure of it, we're both hearing the same thing. Having musicians like Slim, Ethan, Sparky - the thing is is that it was so natural for us to say, "This is what we're thinking." Not even that - they would just put something down and Benjy and I would look at each other and smile and be like, "That's so great." It was so comfortable. Kind of made us laugh to think, "Holy crap - this is us?" I always kind of thought that that's what it would sound like in my head.'

Why Call the album "Lost Souls Like Us"?

Benjy: "The actual phrase... I was writing... I had the album title before I wrote the song, "Stay With Me" with that phrase in it. The album title actual came from a text message and I really wanted to incorporate it because I thought that it sums up exactly what the idea of the song is - it's not exactly as literal as, "don't leave my house," it's more like, "stay with me in some sort of ethereal way -- I want to know that you remember me and you think of me. I hope you carry me with you and vice versa." Yeah, I know there are some highs and lows in the record, but as far as where I am in life, where everyone is in life, there are moments were you're just lost, you know? As far as I'm concerned, it's every day at some point. Nobody's always on top of their game. And it's sort of like when I feel lost, it's the best time to reflect on where I wish I was or if I'm having a great time, I'm not really seeing it for what it is. When I'm not in that moment and I'm lost, I can look back and something and think, "Oh that made sense."

new biography

the latest Benjy Davis Project bio has been posted to the "about" section, check it out!

Listen to "Stay With Me" from "Lost Souls Like Us"

Have you heard "Stay With Me" yet? But he's not the only star of the show. Davis' Project dresses his songs up with some folky touches such as violin or banjo, and then injects some drive into the sound with guitars and keys.
